Time to Bring out Your “Short Shorts”

June 28th, 2010 by JC Carter

Actors Needed for Page-to-Stage Festival

Wasatch Theatre Company and the Utah Association of Regional Theatres (U-ART) are holding auditions for the annual Page-to-Stage Festival (including their 10th Annual Shorts-Shorts program), which highlights the playwriting process from first draft to production. Performances will run September 9 – 25 at the Rose Wagner Studio Theatre.   Six original shorts by local playwrights have been selected for production, so many actors of all ages and backgrounds are needed.  Several local theatres (including Around the Globe Theatre, Avalon Isle, Babcock Readers, Holladay Arts, People Productions, Proletariat Theatre, and Pygmalion Theatre) will be involved in directing and producing the event. Running on alternating nights with the shorts program will be an evening of original plays based on Aesop’s Fables that will feature a troupe of actors playing multiple roles working with one director (Mark Fossen). Actors are needed for this production as well. We are also looking for people to participate in staged readings and a cabaret that will follow the Saturday evening performances.

Auditions will be held Wednesday, July 7th, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 10, 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. in Studio A at the Rose Wagner (138 West 300 South).  Those auditioning will be asked to read from provided scripts.  For more information, call Wasatch Theatre Company at (801) 446-5657.

AtG’s JC Carter is directing the short Hello, Sweetheart and needs two actors, one male one female, who are in their 40s or older. He would love to cast the male African-American, as mentioned in the script, though that isn’t necessary. Still, if you are an African-American man (or know someone who is), who may be interested in this, please come to auditions or let us know you’re interested.

Rehearsals are very minimal. The cast will meet one night each week at JC’s home in August, and have a handful of rehearsals at the Rose prior to opening.

AtG will be very busy in the UART Page to Stage Festival

June 25th, 2010 by JC Carter

Mark your calendars for September 9 – 25, and join us as the Utah Association of Regional Theatres (UART) brings short scripts by local playwrights to life. From the Short Shorts performances, to staged readings and workshops, there is something for everyone!

AtG will be very busy at this year’s festival. First off, JC Carter is directing the short play, Hello, Sweetheart, for the Short Shorts presentation. Along with that, AtG is hosting an auditions workshop on Sept. 18 from 1-3 PM. If you want to improve your audition technique, whether you’re  an actor or a director/casting director, you should attend this workshop.
